A capital city of the republic of Comoros. It has a population of about 24 000. It is located in the western part of the Njazidja Island. Moroni became the administrative capital in 1958
The city is a conglomerate of modern governmental buildings, old Arab houses and mosques with hundreds of narrow, windy streets. The town has a traditional Arabic look.
The wealth of the country is based on products like vanilla, ylang-ylang, cloves and fish. Cacao and coffee are also exported.
