Francistown, Botswana

It a trade, industrial and tourist centre located In the north-eastern part of Botswana, abort 360 km from Gaborone, close to Zimbabwe border. It was founded as The Tate Concession which was a mining and agricultural area of about 5200 square km. It was taken over by the British government in 1887. The town is named after Daniel Francis a famous explorer. It flourished in the 90s of the 19th century, but at the beginning of the 20th century its significance faded. The population is about 66 000 people.
