It was formerly known as Sá da Bandeira. It a rather nice city in the Huila province. It is situated in south-western part of Angola at the bottom of a scenic mountain range. It is a fine starting point to numerous daytrips. The city was founded in 1885 as a settlement for colonists from the Madeira Islands. It is located 1,760 m above the sea level in a valley. Its economy is based on agriculture( meat products, cereal, tobacco, fruits and vegetables) Food processing, leather tanning are the most important in the industry.
