Tamanrasset is located in southern Algeria. It has a population of about 40 000 people. While visiting it is compulsory to bring your own transportation, with plenty of water bottles, whenever you feel like exploring the wilds.

What to see and what to visit
Tamanrasset is an unbelievable place to stop. The city is the largest Tuareg city and it has lots of magnetism. Every day there is an afternoon market, where you can eat and find a boarding place.
Among the main attractions of Tamanrasset is the surrounding area of Ahaggar, the gigantic mountain range, giving asylum for people and animals. There are chocolate and ashen mountains, deep gorgers and ravines. These mountains used to be volcanoes. The city is situated 1400 metres above the sea level, but the highest mountains of Ahaggar are almost 3000 metres above it.

History
It was the most significant place for travellers exploring Sahara until the civil war of Algeria broke out.
