General
It is an oasis in northern Algeria. Ghardaia has a population of about 111 000 people and is the capital city of Ghardaia province. It is also the main town in Mzab, a stony valley of the northern Sahara. Gharda?a produces dates and manufactures rugs and clothes.

Muslim Kharijite sectaries founded the city in the 11th century while they were runnig away from the persecution by the Muslims of the north. First taken by French soldiers in 1854, Gharda?a was formally incorporated into France in 1882.

What to see and what to visit
There is a very interesting market, a beautiful mosque and also Beni Isguen ?a saint town for Moabites.
