Basel has a great zoo

Basel has a great zoo (second largest in Switzerland) with easy access by walking or tram from the central SBB station. For a zoo located in the center of a city it is big with great variety. Have lunch watching the elephants and take some time to see the monkeys solving problems for food in the Monkey House. The variety of animals held in the zoo has decreased within the last couple of years in order to grant the remaining ones a larger habitat. Therefore: Not as depressing as some other zoos. (But still not advised for members of PETA.)
