Canberra is located in the Australian Capital Territory. The city is about 280 kilometres from Sydney and 660 kilometres from Melbourne.
History
The Aboriginal word Kamberra means a meeting place. The city is located on the ancient lands if the indigenous Ngunnawal people. The European appeared in 1830s and the they chose the area for the federal capital in 1908. The Parliament House was opened 19 years later. Canberra?s unique look was planned and designed by Walter Burley Griffin an architect from Chicago. The city combines nature elements with urban lifestyle.
