Wa
Kaśka GlancThis is the administrative centre of the Upper West Region of Ghana and is the major city of the Wala people. Most of the local people are Muslims, so there are a lot of mosques. It is also the seat of the Wa-Na, the Paramount Chief of the Wala traditional area.
The history of the city reaches a few centuries back. It was first inhabited by Lobi and Dagaare people. In the Waali language the name of the settlement means come.
Although it has an urban status, Wa is an agricultural community and a lot of people make a living by farming. The main crops are corn, yams, okra, mango and groundnuts. Shea nuts are common and are collected from wild trees for oils and cosmetics or food.
The main event is The Dumba festival.
