Bolgatanga is also known as Bolga and it is an administrative centre of Bolgatanga Municipal District. It is located very close to the border with Burkina Faso. The location includes the Red Volta River which is a famous as a main migration way of elephants.
The big tourist attraction are also the cliffs of the Gambaga Escarpment, situated south of the city.
The city itself has been well known since the ancient times. It used to serve as Trans-Saharan trade route. Nowadays Bolga is perceived as the craft centre in this part of Ghana. There is an interesting big market. A local museum should not be missed either.
The most important festival is the Sandema Festival. This way the Builsa people celebrate the end of the slave trade.
The main attraction of this region are traditional villages. But also Tongo Hills and The ?tomb? of Naa Gbewaa, the founder of the Mole-Dagbon tribes should be seen.

Population: ca 50 000

This region is a home to a lot of crocodiles. 25 km form the city there are some sacred ponds where the royal crocodile family lives.
