Dekemhare
Kaśka GlancDekemhare is an agricultural town located 40 kilometres south of Asmara. The Italians liked this place a lot due to its gentle climate and rich soil. Dekemhare was supposed to be the manufacturing centre and transportation hub of Eritrea. The Italians used to grow grapes for their wine and other fruits and vegetables. The northern part of the town is where the indigenous people lived during the colonial days and it still is very busy. There are a lot of shops, boutiques, bus station and the old market. The first most important military activities of the Eritrean liberation forces in 1962 took place in Dekemhare. The war of liberation also started here on May 19th 1991.
