Agordat
Kaśka GlancA town in the eastern part of Barka province. It lies 75 kilometres west from Keren. Agordat is an old town and it used to be the capital of the Barka zone. The city may experience extremely high temperatures, and sandstorms well-known as haboob.
Agordat is situated on the Barka river, which is shallow and with sandy bottom. The river floods only during some heavy rains. The region is famous for the banana plantations.
Agordat is a busy market town. There is a mosque, which is the second biggest in Eritrea and was built by Haile Selassie in 1963. The emperor also built the Catholic church and the big hospital.
