Bouar is a town in the western part of the country. It is situated close to the main border crossing with Cameroon. It has a population of about 30 000. It is the capital of the Nana-Mambere Prefecture. For many tourist it is just a stop on the way. The town is a bit derelict, but due to its altitude the climate is very nice. In the region there are some attractive megaliths, stone standings weighing up to 4 tons. There are about 70 of them. The megaliths come from 3140-3110 BC.
The town was given to Germany by France in 1911 (so called Morocco-Congo Treaty).
