Santa Maria is located on the island of Sal. Santa Maria has an airport and sea port.Santa Maria is the small fishing town, but it is the third biggest city in Cape Verde. The town is situated about 12 km south of Mindelo. The town offers ferry routes to the islands of S?o Vicente, S?o Nicolau, Boa Vista and Santiago. The urban area is within the harbour. Most of the area just about Santa Maria is flat, dry and sandy with no vegetation. Quite a few hills and mountains are situated in the northeast. Hotels, restaurants, bars and shops are located along the most important streets and tourism is the most famous industry in Santa Maria. South of the town there is a beautiful lighthouse which is worth seeing.
