Guest GuestHi..I arrived on a boat from the south in October 2004, essentially for the boat trip. I'd hoped to traval by boat all the way from Phnom Penh but there isn't (or wasn't) a boat. So, it was bus from Phnom Penh to Kompon Cham then the boat. It was a packed but fabulous boat ride. I was the ony non Cambodian on board. Kratie it self is like an even more run down version of the capital..BUT....I got motor bike riders to just cruise me around to show me places..One took me home to his dads little farm...rice and pigs..It was the last weeks of monsoon..and so utterly beautiful. Monsoon is a GOOD time to go to Cambodia...the flooded fields are magnificent...Incidentally I later travelled by boat down into South Vietnam, and again, its some of the most spaectacular countryside in the world and the people both in Kratie and throughout Cambodia and South Vietnam are some of the nicest folk on the planet...If you go to Cambodia you'll quickly learn that South Vietnam was and should be part of Cambodia and racially the S Vietnamese are Khmer anyway....SO...GO to Kratie..I'm going again this coming October..John Mann (Australia).
