Abomey is a town in southern Benin and an administrative centre of Zou Province.It has a population of about 55 000. It was founded in the middle of 17th century as Dahomey. Nowadays it is a trade centre as well (brewery, oil production). There is an airport.
What to see and visit:
Abomey offers a lot ? craftwork and magic places like the palace ruins of former kings (UNESCO heritage. (In two of them there are very interesting museums. ) Abomey was the capital of the kingdom of Dahomey.
History
The kingdom of Dahomey was very important in the slave trade in the 17tha and 18th centuries. It was conquered by the French in 1894.
