Maseru means the place of the red sandstone. This is the capital city of Lesotho (since 1869) and is the most important city in this country. It is situated on the Mohokare River close to the border to South Africa. Though the city is located on the lowlands the altitude is still over 1000 above the sea level.
It used to be a textile industry centre.
There is an airport, a university and its partner town is Austin, in Texas, USA. It is said to be a nice place to visit although there are not many sights to see.
