Nairobi

A city in Africa, a capital city of Kenya. It is located in the centre of the country at an elevation of about 1700 m,m at the foot of Aberdare mountain and at the Athi River. One of the biggest cities of central Africa. It is linked by railway with Mombassa and Uganda. It is a very important trade and communication centre. Chemicals and paper are produced here.
The city was founded in 1899 by the Britisj who had taken the are from the Massai people. In 1963 it became an administrative centre of independent Kenya.
There is an airport - Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Nairobi is one of the four UN centres. There are offices of UNEP and UN ? Habitat.

Tourism

Nairobi has a few tourist attractions. The most well-known is the Nairobi National Park.You can see a lot lions and giraffes there. The city is home to quite a few museums. The National Museum of Kenya is the biggest one. You can find a big collection of artefacts, together with the remains of a homo erectus boy. Other museums worth visiting are the Nairobi Railway Museum and the Karen Blixen Museum.
Nairobi is often called the Safari Capital of the World and has many hotels. You can find any kinf ? from 5-star hotels to cheap youth hostels. The Rahimtulla Museum of Modern Art and the Mzizi Arts Centre are also worth stopping by.
